Aadhar is the most important and sophisticated ID proof in the world. Aadhar has now replaced the Ration Card which was earlier the valid ID proof of an Indian citizen.

Aadhar is a 12 digit unique number given to every citizen of India depending upon the biometric data from the person. Aadhaar number is mandatory for each citizen of Indian territory.

The data for the Aadhar card from every citizen is collected by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which is an authority established in January 2009 by the government of India.

The department of telecommunication (DoT) has made it mandatory for the person to link Aadhaar card to the mobile number. The deadline for linking the Aadhaar card with the mobile number is 31st March 2018. Also, the government has ordered the telecom operators to offer the services to the doorsteps for senior citizens, disabled and chronically ill people to complete the re-verification process.

The documents required for linking Aadhar and sim card are:

1. An activated Sim card

2. Copy of Aadhar card

Every telecom operator offers a few methods to link Aadhar card with the mobile number.

A) OTP (One-time password) method

Step1: First you need to visit the telecom subscriber’s online aadhar portal.

Step2: Enter the mobile number that you want to link with your Aadhaar number.

Step3: Now, your telecom operator will send you a one time password (OTP) to your mobile number

Step 4: To proceed, enter the provided OTP and click ‘Submit’.

Step 5: A consent message will pop up on your screen. Now, enter your unique Aadhaar number carefully.

Step 6: After this, your telecom company will send a request to UIDAI for OTP generation.

Step 7: Then, you will receive a consent message from UIDAI about the e-KYC details. Check those carefully.

Step 8: Then, you need to accept all the terms and conditions and enter the provided OTP.

Step 9: After completing these steps, you will receive a confirmation message about your Aadhaar number and mobile number re-verification.

B) SMS based linkage

For this, you have to visit your nearest telecom operator.

Step1:  First, visit the nearest telecom operator and tell the executive that you need to link your Aadhar number to your mobile number.

Step2: Then, you need to submit the correct Aadhaar card details and the mobile number to the executive.

Step 3: Then, the executive will provide you with a 4-digit verification code that is an OTP for your mobile number.

Step 4: Next, you need to submit the one-time password (OTP) to the executive and provide your biometrics.

Step 5: After 24 hours, you will receive an SMS. Reply “Y” to complete the e-KYC process.
